Delhi to Kedarnath by Force Urbania

Delhi to Kedarnath by Force Urbania is about 450 km by road to Sonprayag- the last point private vehicles are allowed via Haridwar, Rishikesh, Rudraprayag and Guptkashi. From Sonprayag you take a shared local jeep ~5 km to Gaurikund, then trek 16 km (or take a pony, palki or helicopter) to the temple at 3,583 m. Plan a 5–6 day round trip.

How far is Delhi to Kedarnath by road, and where does the vehicle stop?

The road distance from Delhi to Gaurikund is roughly 450–470 km, taking 12–16 hours of driving usually split across two days. Your Urbania can drive as far as Sonprayag, where all private vehicles must park- beyond Sonprayag only government shared jeeps run the final ~5 km to Gaurikund. From Gaurikund, the 16 km trek to the temple begins; no vehicle reaches Kedarnath itself.

Is the Force Urbania a good vehicle for the Kedarnath trip?

Yes, for the comfort it gives on a long, winding route- reclining seats, strong AC and hill assist, ABS and ESP for mountain safety. One practical tip: the roads past Rudraprayag are narrow, so a 9 or 12 Seater Urbania is more manageable than the 16 seater on the tightest stretches. If your group is large, a 12-seater Urbania is the sweet spot of comfort and road-friendliness for this yatra.

What is a good Delhi to Kedarnath itinerary by Urbania?

  • Day 1: Delhi → Guptkashi or Sonprayag (overnight). Long driving day; start before dawn.

  • Day 2: Drive to Sonprayag, jeep to Gaurikund, trek/pony to Kedarnath; overnight near the temple.

  • Day 3: Morning darshan, trek down to Gaurikund, drive back to Guptkashi/Rudraprayag (overnight).

  • Day 4: Drive back to Delhi (or add Haridwar/Rishikesh for a night).

Many groups extend this to 5–6 days to combine it with Haridwar, Rishikesh, or the wider Chardham circuit, and to allow rest before the trek.

When is the best time to do the Kedarnath yatra from Delhi?

The temple is open roughly late April to mid-November (in 2026, opening 22 April and closing 11 November). The best windows are May–June and September–November, when roads are clearer and landslide risk is lower. Carry warm clothing even in summer; nights at altitude are cold. Yatra registration is mandatory- register online before you travel and keep the e-pass for checkpoints at Sonprayag and Gaurikund.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Urbania go all the way to Kedarnath temple?

No. Private vehicles, including the Urbania, can drive only up to Sonprayag. From there a shared government jeep covers ~5 km to Gaurikund, and the final 16 km to the temple is by trek, pony, palki or helicopter.

How many days does Delhi to Kedarnath take by Urbania?

Plan 4 days minimum and 5–6 days comfortably. The road journey alone is 12–16 hours each way, usually split across two days, plus the trek and darshan.

Is a 16 seater Urbania suitable for the Kedarnath road?

It can do it, but the narrow hill roads past Rudraprayag are easier in a 9 or 12 seater. For larger groups, a 12-seater Urbania balances comfort with road-friendliness best.

Do I need to register for the Kedarnath yatra?

Yes. Registration is mandatory for every pilgrim and is done online before travel. You’ll need the QR e-pass at the Sonprayag and Gaurikund checkpoints.

What is the total Delhi to Kedarnath distance including the trek?

About 450–470 km by road to Gaurikund plus a 16 km trek each way- roughly 466 km one way before the round-trip trek of 32 km on foot. You can find all other details in Delhi to Kedarnath Yatra Guide.
